Cranial Remolding Helmets

Occasionally babies are born with or develop flat spots on the back of their heads, a condition called plagiocephaly. Some causes of this are in utero positioning or neck tightness (torticollis) that prevents babies from turning their head to both sides equally. A cranial remolding helmet can help correct head shape through directed growth. Babies’ heads are growing and changing most rapidly between 4-6 months of age, the optimal time for them to be fit with a helmet. There is still head growth until 18 months, and many babies will have successful outcomes when they are fit with a helmet after 6 months of age. If you are concerned about your babies head shape, please contact our office for a free evaluation, no doctor’s referral is needed.

Types of Cranial Helmets

There are many different styles and brands of cranial helmets to treat plagiocephaly and craniosynostosis, and each has its own unique benefits. We’re proud to offer a variety of options so we can find the best fit for your baby. At your evaluation, we’ll go over the different helmet types together and recommend the one that best fits your baby’s needs, head shape, and treatment goals.

STARband

One of the original cranial remolding helmet designs, this option features a thick inner foam liner that allows for excellent adjustability throughout treatment. Its versatility makes it a great choice for accommodating a wide variety of head shapes while ensuring a comfortable fit as your baby grows.

Talee

This 3D-printed cranial helmet features a unique 2-in-1 design. As head circumference increases throughout treatment, the helmet can be adjusted to allow for continued correction, helping maximize results while maintaining a secure comfortable fit.

Sprout

The newest 3D-printed cranial helmet. It features a large opening at the top of the head and perforated foam lining to promote improved airflow and ventilation. The wide opening and self-closing latch system make it easy for parents to put on and remove, while still providing a secure fit.

Starlight PRO

This cranial helmet is designed without a foam liner, making it a great option for babies with sensitive skin. It’s clear, see-through design allows visualization of pressure points and amount of growth left.
